I ended up having less time to work on this than I expected so I wasn't able to get it to a fully working state, but I thought I'd submit it anyway as I had tried put some time in to it. I'll probably look at getting it to a more complete state once the jam is over.

The idea is that you are training a companion to fight a monster, so that he improves as you guide him through the levels. After you have completed three levels he then fights the monster on his own and whether he wins depends on how well he was trained.

The training currently works as follows: his movement speed increases the more he walks, his attack speed and damage increase as he hits enemies (though you have to attack 4 times for him to actually learn to attack), and his max health increases based on how much health he lost during the previous level.

He was also meant to react to charge up attacks differently depending on how you reacted to them but I ended up not having enough time for that.

I'm not actually sure if it's beatable. I did lower the damage and health pool of the monsters a bit so I think it should be possible to get your companion to a point where they will win, but I can't guarantee it yet.
